Hey there,

My name is Wessel (they/them), and I’m a multidisciplinary artist, ranging from acting to writing and directing. I grew up in The Netherlands, a 30-minute train ride from Amsterdam, in a little town called ‘Naarden’, and am currently living & working in New York City.

My high school days were spent preparing to go into pre-med, thinking I wanted to be a doctor, but after giving it the thought it needed, I came to a different conclusion: I was mainly occupied with emotionality of the job, and the relationship with the patients. This made me realise I wanted to relate to humanity in a different way.

I took a gap year and ended up making a short film called ‘The Dinner Table’, about a mother struggling to keep her family together. In 2013 it got selected for the Cannes Film Festival.
Excited to explore filmmaking further, I decided to go the NYU Tisch School of the Arts to study at the Experimental Theatre Wing, from which I graduated with a BFA in Drama and a minor in Film Production.
After graduation I made a web series called ‘Coming Together’, which follows six college students exploring their sexualities. It went on to win ‘Best Episodic Content’ at the 2018 Buffalo International Film Festival.
Currently my time is spent auditioning in the city and developing my NYU thesis show ‘Hold Down The Fort, Son’.

“Baby, you are going to miss that plane…” is taken from one of my all-time favorite films, ‘Before Sunset’. It is said by Celine, and to me it perfectly encapsulates what it means to surrender yourself to the moment and let your heart take the driver’s seat.

On my time off I love to cook, hike, dance on my roof and eat French fries when I can.
